Frequently Asked Questions - General

Is Clear Coat Necessary and Required?

Of course we can't make you put clear coat onto your finished pieces (with the exception of neon colors - they must have clear coat or the color will fade very quickly), but we highly recommend it.  It will provide for longer durability and protection against the elements.

I don't see pricing for quad and motorcycle frames, do you offer this service?
Unfortunately at this time we do not.  We pride ourselves in the work that we do on smaller parts.  However if you are interested in getting a frame for your motorcycle polished, we can do that.

What is the turn-around time for powder coating parts?
This varies depending on the part being powder coated, but we strive to ensure you have your parts by the date promised.

Do you offer powder-coating service to people not in Michigan?
Yes!  If you are willing to pay for shipping both ways, we would be happy to powder coat your part for you.

Do you offer pick-up and delivery service?
This can be arranged, contact us for questions and fees for this service.

Frequently Asked Questions About Powder Coating and the Process

All powder coating starts out as a powder but once cured in our oven it becomes a durable colorful finish.

What Is Powder Coating?
The powder coating process uses a solvent free dry mix of plastic resins, pigments and fillers that melt and fuse together when heated. The solid particles of coating are electrostatically charged in a spray gun and carried by low velocity air to the surface of the piece to be coated. The electrostatic charge holds the powder particles in place while the part is cured in a 400-degree oven. The heat of the oven causes a chemical reaction to occur and the powder to cure, creating a highly durable finish.

Is it Environmentally Friendly?

Powder coating is an environmentally friendly process unlike solvent-based wet paint systems. With EPA regulations growing ever stricter, powder coating is fast becoming the technology of choice. Since the powder coating process does not use solvents in any way, VOC emission problems are eliminated.

Is Powder Coating Durable?
Powder Coatings resist cracking and peeling and are extremely abrasion, corrosion and chemical resistant. The performance characteristics of powder coating match or exceed the characteristics achieved from conventional solvent-based coatings.

What Colors Do You Offer?
Powder Coatings are available in a large variety of stock colors, metallics, textures and special effects.

What Can Be Coated?
Any metal object that can hold an electrostatic charge and withstand the heat of the curing process can be powder coated. Powder can be applied to intricate surfaces and still maintain a uniform finish across the entire piece.

What is Clear Powder Coating?

Clear powder coating serves the same purpose as clear coat wet paint. It protects the underlying finish and adds depth and luster to the surface. Clear powder coat is applied as a second coat and shot while the piece is still hot. Then the piece is returned to the oven for a second curing process. Use clear powder coating on any piece that exposure to elements could cause it to fade or be subject to damage.
